Andrew “CRAE Chege”, is a visual artist from Nairobi, Kenya.
His work mostly comprises of urban landscapes which he often paints in a distinct intense monochromatic format or limited colour palette.
With this style he pulls feeling and emotion out the mundane everyday scenes of local neighbourhoods turning overlooked locations and objects such as power-lines to striking scenes.
Recently, he has drawn inspiration from the lone palm trees scattered throughout Nairobi city — tall, resilient, ever-present symbols of endurance. Once a defining backdrop of Nairobi in the 1950s, they now recede into the background of a rapidly changing skyline. Almost forgotten, yet quietly preserved, they stand as living bookmarks in the city’s history.
His works can be seen displayed in collections of various corporations like United Nations, Sanlam and I&M Bank.
